Perhaps the most underrated golfer of the Tiger Woods era is Matt Kuchar. He’s now a nine-time winner on the PGA Tour and a fourteen-time winner worldwide. He got his latest win Sunday Night in Hawaii at (-22) by four strokes over Andrew Putnam (-18) Kuchar overcame three bogeys in his first five holes by birding six of his final ten holes including three of the last four. A late bogey on fourteen compounded but Kuchar’s bogeys ended Putnam’s hopes.
Chez Reavie, Marc Leishman, Hudson Swafford, and Corey Conners all tied for 3rd at (-17) Davis Love III finished 7th at (-16) Brian Stuard and Charles Howell III tied for 8th at (-15) Sebastian Munoz, Sung Kang, and Bryson Dechambeau rounded out the top-ten in a three-way tie at (-14) Dechambeau was very frustrated with his final round.
The win will value Kuchar up to 2nd in the FedEx Cup point standings, behind last weeks winner Xander Schauffle. Marc Leishman, Gary Woodland, and Howell III round out the top-five that as of today will control their own destiny at East Lake come August.
